Accessing school WiFi from a personal device (Staff and Pupils)

Modified on Thu, 9 Mar, 2023 at 5:02 PM

Key Request

Both Staff and Pupils wishing to connect a personal device to the school WiFi will need to request a private wireless key before trying to connect to the "MHSF_Key" wireless network. Staff and Pupil connect in the same way, but once connected are on totally separate networks.

To request a Private Key please send a blank email to requestkey@millhill.org.uk from your school email address and wait 1-2 minutes for an automated reply with your private access key and instructions.

NOTE: Your Private Key is unique and not transferable and should not be used on a shared device; you are responsible for safeguarding your Private Key.

Once you have received your unique wireless key for your devices:

1. Connect your device to Wi-Fi network "MHSF_Key".
2. Enter the access key
3. Within 30 seconds you should have internet access

Key Reminder

Should you need to be reminded of your private key, send a blank email to requestkey@millhill.org.uk from your school email address and wait 1-2 minutes for an automated reply.

Internet Usage

The following is deemed unacceptable use or behaviour:

  •  Divulging passwords to others, or using other users' passwords for accessing the Internet.
  •  Visiting internet sites that contain obscene, hateful, pornographic or otherwise illegal material.
  •  Using the internet to send offensive or harassing material to other users.

Staff Web Filtering

Staff have very little web-filtering applied, but some VPN links that are prone to misuse, and unsuitable or malicious websites may be blocked. You can visit Test A Site to see how a website is currently categorised, if you feel the category is incorrect you can also use Test A Site to submit a website category change request which, if approved by our third-party web content filtering company, will update the school internet filtering rules within 24 hours.

User Identification timeout

Occasionally the user-identification system fails to correctly identify the logged-in user, and the web filter falls-back to only a basic level of internet access. This can occur if a computer is unlocked (rather than logged-in) or when swapping between wired, wireless, or moving locations.

To confirm your identity, simply go to the Captive Portal and enter your username (not email address) and your usual school login password.
