Aim:

This text will briefly introduce the reader to the concept of a Private WiFi Key and how to generate it using the MHSF WiFi Portal located here https://wifi.millhill.org.uk

What is Private Key?

A Private Key is a WiFi password to authenticate and allow users such as guests mainly, and in some cases staff and pupils access to the internet over the MHSF wireless LAN. A Private Key can be used when a user does not have a valid MHSF account and therefore cannot connect to the MHSF_BYOD WiFi, or where a device does not support MHSF_BYOD.

Visitor WiFi Key Request (1 day).

A WiFi kiosk facility is available in each MHSF reception for visitors to request their own WiFi Key. Staff can create a visitor account on behalf of a guest, but a valid guest email address must be provided.

The visitor key is valid for ONE day and should not be shared.

Major Events Key Request

A Major Event key is intended for major events only, probably events with more than 10 guests. Only a member of MHSF staff can request an Event Key.

A Major event key is valid for ONE or THREE days, starting from the first login and must be used within TWO weeks. The key used must be unique for each event.

Contractor WiFi Key Request (7 days)

Only a member of MHSF Staff can request a contractor key and it is your responsibility for passing the key to the contractor along with a copy of the WiFi access policy.

The contractor key is valid for ONE week, starting from the first login and must be used within TWO weeks. Unique for each company.

Staff WiFi Key Request

Why would a member of staff or a pupil require a Private Key?

Staff members and pupils are able to use their school network login details, which they use daily to access the school computers and their email accounts to connect to the MHSF_BYOD WiFi. They can use this method when attempting to connect their devices, such as computers and smartphones and other devices that support corporate authentication methods.

However, some devices such as an Apple watch, a video game console, or an internet TV

/ Radio will not support corporate WiFi authentication, in these situations a Private Key is required.

If you require a Staff Private Key please access the Staff Personal Key Request tab and follow the instructions provided.

NOTE: Your Private Key is unique and not transferable; you are responsible for safeguarding your Private Key.

Devices (e.g. Alexa) that connect to WiFi via a key

Staff or Pupil keys are intended for personal devices that cannot connect to the MHSF_BYOD. Your private key is unique and not transferable, sharing this key could risk the security of your account.

To generate a key, from your school email account send a blank email to requestkey@millhill.org.uk and wait a few minutes for an automated reply. In Outlook, replies may be sent to Other tab.-
