USB sticks

Modified on Mon, 6 Feb, 2023 at 1:20 PM

Staff should never plug a pupil's USB stick into their computer - ransomware only needs a few minutes to encrypt all shared documents.

Staff and Pupils are discouraged from using USB sticks, with Office 365 sharing, the Firefly VLE, as well as Google, files can easily be transferred without any need for USB sticks.

Staff cannot write to USB sticks unless the USB sticks have been encrypted, this is to avoid potential data breaches which risk the Foundation being fined by the Information Commissioner's Office. The USB stick encryption uses a unique, local password, if this password is lost there is no way to recover the files from the USB stick.
Staff copying files to USB sticks will be logged, and IT will be alerted.

Pupils can currently write to USB sticks.
